Mini Repairs
Here is Dave under Mac helping me (try) to fix the oil leak that has plagued the sump since St Martins Garage fixed broke it last time. We successfully fitted a new gasket to one of the drive shaft cover plates except it turns out that the leak may be from a small rubber ‘o’ ring underneath the plate. Needless to say that after it all went back together it still leaked… bugger! At least we managed to fix Dave’s exhaust with the proper and safe use of welding equipment! Tomorrow we will be aiming to order up a number of replacement bits from minispares to sort it out … again!! As usual, watch this space!

I am glad to see standards of workmanship at St Martins Garage are being maintanined then
What exactly does “proper and safe use” mean then…… Keeping the welding torch at least 20 cm away from the full tank of fuel under the van???

From what I now know about Daves van and your mini I can only say it’s a good thing we don’t have an MOT over here.
Not that my bike would pass it!

The oil leak is sooo much worse now that we fixed it!!! I have had to order some more seals and bits to try and get it sorted. As soon as I am happy with it… I will probably take it apart to add the new cam and bits!!

Hi,
i have a mini sprite n reg with 37k miles… the engine is in good condition and car starts up quickly, however it sometimes cuts off after ignition so have to keep restarting or keep the revs up. However, it has just started ‘dying’ when I change gear when moving… any idea what parts I should buy from you to replace to solve this problem please?
Best regards,
Simon

Hi Simon,
Afraid I am not a parts supplier but you could check the usual suspects in the ignition system. If you own a Mini, I highly recommend the Haynes manual for your model and year… they give you all the information you will need!

The usual suspects are probably things like idle speed, and fuel/air mixture. You could pull out the spark plugs and check their colouring as that will tell you a lot about the running of the engine.
