I won a competition on photozo.com with a photo of a person at the top of a mast. I think I will have to start displaying my entries on www.shanemarriott.com!

Short update required. As you can see I have not been up to much lately. What I have done though is purchased a new printer. A new Epson R800 is sitting on my desk so that I will be able to print pictures of a very high quality and have them last 80 years due to the Durabrite, Ultrachrome inks.

Just had a great week-end. Early starts on both mornings meant maximum use of the days. Extra sleep could have been had on Saturday as the planned 9AM Scuba dive in Havelet bay was canceled at the last minute… never mind… shopping with ‘H’ it was then!! I bought a new lens for my Canon using money that I had for my birthday. Now being fully kitted… I really must get some pics online. The camera works really well except that I am having some small problems with focussing, I hope that these issues are solved easily as I would hate to be without for another extended period!

We completed our first race on Mystere this Sunday. We were very happy with our 8th position out of 10! In fact when you consider that we thought we were doing a completely different race and didn’t know the course it was a result that we even got to the finish! The way I look at it though… It was a nice day, we finished a race, we didn’t break the boat and we weren’t last… what more could you want?? The new set of sails will be quite nice but they wont be here for a month or so!!

It is now Tuesday and we have had a bank holiday!! What a week-end… it started last Friday lunchtime when my new camera arrived by DHL… at last… it was ordered on 17th March!!! I had the lens for it on about the 20th march so it was nice to finally get my hands on it… I wrote an article about it ages ago… its here if you are interested. The week-end was also great, the Aquasail.net website was progressed, a day in Herm, seeds planted for the vegetable garden and my friends left for a 3 year trip around the world on their yacht Spinalonga, their story is going to be recorded on the Aquasail site at http://spinalonga.aquasail.net. I have written a short story from Helen’s notes about the trip to Herm so Have a look here… it was a really nice sail.

Just before I left for CeBIT, I had a worrying incident where a certain person that I consider to be particularly close, pressed the ‘Buy It Now’ button on Amazon and initiated the process of charging me for, then dispatching a new toy. My new investment is a Canon EOS 10D camera, a zoom lens with image stabiliser and a 1GB memory card. It is now my belief that my hobby of photography had better start to pay for itself so shortly afterwards I bought a book on how to sell my pictures. I also had to sell a lot of items on eBay to cover this one… no more film for me!! More interestingly though… when I got back from Germany, there was a large box with Amazon printed on the side. They had sent me the lens and the memory card… Camera is likely to be a week or so!!! Have a look at the following links on my site.

Now this is interesting. Microsoft research have this service online and it looks like it may have a number of uses in the future. Even more interesting is that they have hired a guy to hike around America taking photos and uploading them to the service! Have a look at the MS World Wide Media Exchange!
